What are the depths measured and why?

A CropX sensor station measures soil moisture at two depths. We offer a shallow station which measures at 8” and 18” depths and a deep station that measures at 28” and 38” depths.

Cropx is focused on maximizing yields through efficient water use by better managing water in the root zone during the growing season. Because growers have many decisions to make, CropX has kept soil moisture measurements simple by focusing where most of the roots are located. In irrigated regions where there may be considerable rainfall such as Missouri, the root zone tends to be more shallow and the shallower station may be most appropriate. As you move West to drier regions, the root zone may be deeper and the deeper station may be best. Of course, you can install both depths in a field to get a complete profile.
