The expected lifespan of the batteries is one to two growing seasons. A station measures soil moisture every 30 minutes and only transmits every 12 hours or if there is a massive change in moisture.
The transmission to the cloud uses the most battery power. Shorter battery life can be expected if there are more than normal transmissions such as occurs when there is a poor cellular signal.
Batteries can easily be changed by the grower with a Philips-head screwdriver.
